Guided Exploration: an Inductive Minimalist Approach for Teaching Tool-related Concepts and Techniques
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper we introduce Guided Exploration as an inductive teaching approach. It is based on Minimalism and makes use of the pattern format. Guided Exploration addresses a couple of problems when teaching tool-related concepts and techniques, like how to address different student learning styles and how to address the issue that most students do not read the provided material as expected before starting to work. It also puts the focus on the concepts to be learned. We describe the design of a first course at our university where we applied Guided Exploration. The evaluation gives promising results and shows that at least some of the known problems are addressed by the new approach. PLEASE NOTE: this is the pre-print version of the CSERC’13 conference!

An Optimal Design Approach for Resistive and Inductive Superconducting Fault Current Limiters via MCDM Techniques
The design process of a superconducting current limiter (SFCL) requires simulation and definition of its electrical, magnetic and thermal properties in form of equivalent circuits and mathematical models. However, any change in SFCL parameters: dimension, resistance, and operating temperature can affect the limiting mode, quench time, and restore time. In this paper, following the simulation of...
متن کاملLanguage learning and language culture in a changing world
To communicate effectively, learners have to become proficient in both the language and the culture of the target language. Being aware of socio-cultural frameworks does not mean that as an outcome of instruction learners have to become "native-like," but an awareness of L2 cultural norms can allow learners to make their own informed choices of how to become competent and astute l...

The present study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of deductive instruction of grammar with input enhancement and without using input enhancement. It also explored the effectiveness of inductive instruction of grammar with input enhancement and without input enhancement among Iranian EFL learners. The participants were female intermediate-level students who were studying English a...
متن کاملTowards a Teaching Approach for Improving Mathematics Inductive Reasoning Problem Solving
The study aimed at proposing and assessing a training program that integrates both inductive reasoning problem solving and the development of mathematical concepts. This approach was developed on the basis of a general theory of inductive reasoning, which delineates six related classes of problems and the corresponding solution processes and it was implemented to sixth grade students. Data were...
متن کاملThe Effects of Deductive and Guided Inductive Instructional Approaches on the Learning of Grammar in the Elementary Foreign Language College Classroom
This study investigates the effectiveness of deductive and guided inductive approaches for teaching grammar in college French classrooms. .Forty-seven secondsemester French students were taught eight grammatical structures: four with a deductive instructional approach and four with a guided inductive instructional approach. A quasiexperimental within-subjects design featuring preand posttests a...
